Sderot, Israel; Miami, FL – November 15, 2024 – Genesis Friends for Life Global Foundation today announced a delegation including the Co-founder and CEO of Genesis Friends for Life in Israel, and the wife and children of Avi Megera, who lost his life on October 7 while riding his motorcycle on the streets of Sderot, Israel, will arrive in Miami next week.
Michal Megara, age 46 and the widow of Mr. Megera, and their four children Ori (age 9), Ilai (age 16), Shalev (age 22), and Shaked (age 20) will share their stories, with an address by Shalev, who is a symbol of strength and hope for all Israelis and all who support Israel across the globe.
A new short documentary film directed by Omer Bar-Sadeh and produced by Genesis BH Media called One Sabbath in Sderot will be screened as part of an exclusive event at The Temple House, a former synagogue in Miami Beach, on Thursday, November 2.

The delegation will be led by Dr. Lior Aviman, co-founder and CEO of Genesis Friends for Life Foundation, an NGO operating out of Tel Aviv working in the communities most impacted by the October 7 Iron Swords War.
“This family is one of many innocent families whose worlds were shattered on October 7,” Dr. Aviman said. “Their courage and determination to share their experiences is profound and sheds personal light on what it means to lose a beloved husband and father as the result of violent extremism and antisemitism. They will carry this impossible pain for the rest of their lives, but with the support of our organization and generous members, donors, and volunteers, they will have Friends for Life years and decades to come through our Doron Grant for Life program.

“My story begins in Israel, a place that has always been home to me and my family. My father was a kind and brave man. He worked hard every day to support us and believed in the strength of our community. He taught me about courage, compassion, and resilience. But one day, everything changed. A terror attack took him from us. Just like that, my father was gone.
Losing him left a hole in my heart that I don’t think will ever fully heal. But as time has passed, I have learned something important: I am not alone. There are people like you—Jewish community and business leaders with the heart and resources to make a difference—who have shown me that my pain and my story matter.”
