Miami, FL; Sderot, Israel; London, UK – January 28, 2025  – The Genesis Friends for Life Global Foundation, along with Genesis Group, a Miami-based organization bringing together business and humanity, today announced the formal introduction of a twelve-minute short documentary film by Omer Bar-Sadeh sharing the story of a family whose lives were shattered on October 7, 2023 when their husband and father Avi Megira was shot by Hamas terrorists while out for a ride on his motorcycle.

The film premiered at The Genesis Friends for Life’s second annual Memorial Gala at the Temple House in Miami in November 2024.

The Megira family, whose lives were forever altered by the loss of Avi Megira in the horrific Hamas attacks, represents the resilience and courage of countless families impacted by these devastating events.

Through a series of interviews, primarily with one of Mr. Megira’s sons, Shaked, a 20-year-old soldier in the IDF, the documentary covers the events and impact on Michal, the mother and widow, and her children Ori, Ilai, Shalev, and Shaked.

Shaked recounts that his father rode a motorcycle as a hobby and often went on Saturday morning motorcycle trips with a group of bikers. On October 7, 2023, his father went on a trip with his group. As they were leaving Sderot, they encountered Hamas terrorists riding in pickup trucks. The terrorists shot Avi in the head, killing him and several other bikers, and continued into the city of Sderot on a planned killing spree.

They shot everyone in their path as they drove toward the Sderot police station and nearby residential buildings. The terrorists took control of the police station, and after a prolonged battle, a tank arrived and fired several shells at the station, finally managing to overpower and neutralize the terrorists.

Avi worked at a cleaning supplies factory as a sales representative and was well-loved by his colleagues.

He was known as a man with excellent technical skills, good communication, and a loyal friend. He was a father who loved and cared for his children in every way. There was a deep and touching bond between Avi and his eldest son, Shaked.

In a poignant moment of the evening in Miami, Shalev Megira, Avi’s eldest daughter, delivered heartfelt remarks honoring her father’s legacy and expressing gratitude for the global support extended to her family and others like them.

She said,

“In Israel, we face challenges daily, and for many of us, the constant threat to our safety is part of our reality. But with the support of communities like yours, we have hope. You give us the strength to keep going, to build a future, and to pursue our dreams even when we feel broken. I know that with your help, I can find the strength to carry my father’s legacy forward and create a brighter future for my family and for others like me.

By supporting young people like me, you’re doing something powerful. You’re helping us rebuild, helping us find our paths, and showing us that our dreams don’t have to end in tragedy.

Thank you for standing with Israel, for believing in us, and for reminding us that we are a global family.

God bless you. God bless Israel!”

The documentary film is available for screening at private gatherings in synagogues and community centers and as part of Jewish Film Festivals and other documentary screening programs.

The film was produced by Genesis Group founders Amiel David Aviman and Ranny Yarom, and Anshel Dalfin. Contributors include:
